A Day At Anzo-Borrego State Park

March 12, 2017

We kept hearing about all the wildflowers blooming in the desert because of all the rain we’ve had lately so we decided to head on over. The drive is about 1 hour and 45 mins from our house. We left at 6am in order to beat any crowds and traffic.

Upon arriving near the state park we decided to get some breakfast. There is not a lot around there. We found our way to Los Jilbertos, 655 Palm Canyon Dr. We had egg burritos that were very good- great homemade tasting tortillas.

We then drove to and parked at the visitors center. We had decided to do the BORREGO PALM CANYON NATURE TRAIL. This trail is 3 miles round trip if you park at the base of the trail. To do this you have to drive in through the campground and there is parking for the trail there. We chose to walk from the visitor center which is a 5 mile round trip hike. This was a fun hike ending up going along a stream and culminating at an oasis.

After our hike we stopped at a thrift shop on Palm Canyon Dr. and then we decided to stop in Julian on our way home.

Julian is a very cute little town. We poked around in the shops and had a late lunch and then we had this apple dumpling from Mom’s Pies This may have been the best thing I’ve ever eaten!
